Lu Han is an experienced Principal Member of Technical Staff at Tableau Software, with a passion for leading product initiatives from design to delivery phases. He is a creative ideator who generates innovative ideas for solving complex problems and producing new infrastructure tools. Lu is a natural team builder who leads by example, encourages his team to think big, and motivates them with a growth mindset. He is also a caring mentor who provides reachable but challenging opportunities to his mentees and offers different suggestions, including support, encouragement, and specific scenario soft skill suggestions. Currently, Lu is working on Tableau Ask Data product, where he focuses on exploring the easiest way for users to ask questions about data and explore it with natural language and rich, interactive visualizations. He led the prototyping work for prompted action/phrase completion recommendation in the Ask Data feature and drove the prototyping work to transform the Ask Data internal intermediate analytical language into a generalized cross-platform interface for translation between visual modeling and data modeling. Lu consistently provides architecture design advice for multiple teams and has reviewed project planning for various teams across topics, including building and onboarding microservices across C++, Go, Java, and Python languages, monolith broke up projects planning and execution, eventing system usage and message broker integration, API, and application architecture design. In the past, Lu has worked on several projects, including Tableau Datasource Service, where he led the team throughout the full cycle of the project, from early-staged project ideation to later project execution, solution implementation, service infra design, and productionalization. He successfully integrated the system with multiple legacy and new services and onboarded, mentored, and transferred the project to a team of eight engineers around Tableau Server architecture, messaging system, microservices, and gRPC in Java and C++. Lu has also worked on NLP team, where he designed and implemented semantic model systems, developed internal deployment systems, introduced and created version control pipelines for decoupling services from monolith, and deployed microservices to Tableau Server eco-system. He led the project for microservices performance testing. Lu has a Master's Degree in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. He has relevant experience of 8.03 years and is proficient in software engineering, frontend, backend, NLP, microservices, infra, Java, designer, Typescript, Elastic Search, Redux, integration, Python, and test.
