Luca Palmieri is a Lead Engineer at TrueLayer with over 6 years of relevant experience in the software development industry. He is a curious individual who is passionate about software, people, and tech products. Luca is an active contributor to open-source projects, primarily in the Rust ecosystem. He is also the author of an in-progress book on backend development in Rust titled "Zero To Production." Currently, Luca is working as a Principal Engineer at TrueLayer, where he is responsible for all things tech for their Payouts API product. This includes architecture and design, delivery and stakeholder management, operational support, hiring, and line management of all engineers on the team. Luca and his team are working to ensure that the Payouts API is secure, scalable, and has well-understood failure modes. They have introduced several new architecture patterns, from event sourcing to event-driven architecture, to ensure decoupling between services and fault tolerance. The entire product is built in Rust, and Luca is particularly keen on Rust's performance, security profile, and expressive type system. The technology stack for this project includes Rust, Postgres, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, Prometheus, and Jaeger. In his previous role at TrueLayer, Luca was the Lead Engineer and Engineering Manager for the Global Expansion team. The team's mission was to connect as many European banks as possible, and Luca was responsible for scaling the team to meet their ambitious milestones. He made changes to ceremonies, processes, team topology, and evolved the underlying architecture of the system. In six months, the team was live in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and Ireland, completed the technical migration without any significant incident or misstep, and grew the team to more than 30 engineers across 4 offices and 3 time zones. Luca holds a Master of Science in Mathematics from the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Rome 'La Sapienza.' His technical skills include Senior Software Engineer, Backend development, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, and Postgres.
