Lucas Sloan is a self-taught Machine Learning Engineer currently working at Google. With 8.87 years of relevant experience, Lucas has a strong background in GANs, self-driving car perception, and Reinforcement Learning. Before joining Google, Lucas worked at Streak as a Backend Lead. During his time there, he built features, maintained infrastructure, and fixed bugs to enable 8x revenue growth in just two years. He also implemented premier features such as custom permissions, mail merge, task management, team management, call logs, custom reporting, internal console, and new billing/licensing modes. Lucas reduced datastore writes, removed unnecessary indexes on the NoSQL Google Cloud Datastore, and moved backend processing to the App Engine Flexible Environment, resulting in a 20% reduction in server costs. He also leveraged Google Cloud Dataflow to lower costs to export logs by 3x. Lucas also worked at Tricycle Apps as a Lead Maintainer. While there, he introduced new data and queries to the SQL database to enable sorting comments by the quality of discussion they inspired. He interfaced with the MediaWiki API to automatically create wiki accounts for users and created automated tests for the Bellroy.com storefront using Ruby/Rspec. Lucas received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2014.
