Luis Pineda is a Research Engineer at Facebook AI Research with a passion for designing autonomous systems that can safely act in the world. With over 8 years of relevant experience, Luis has a strong background in planning, algorithms, machine learning, statistics, and optimization, with a special focus on applying these skills to engineering processes and oil production applications. Luis holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he developed scalable algorithms for continual planning under uncertainty using bounded resources. He also holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Applied Computing and an Engineer's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Universidad del Zulia, Venezuela. Prior to joining Facebook, Luis worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he developed algorithms for continual planning under uncertainty. He also worked as a Research Intern at Microsoft, where he focused on reinforcement learning. Luis is proficient in a range of technologies, including research scientist, AI, reinforcement learning, ML, software engineering, deep learning, and Tensorflow. He has also taught graduate-level courses on Mathematics, Data Structure and Algorithms, and Optimization at Universidad del Zulia, Venezuela. In his current role at Facebook AI Research, Luis is focused on designing algorithms that enable autonomous agents to make rational and safe decisions in the face of uncertainty and limited resources. He is passionate about using his skills to create systems that can understand the world and act safely within it.
