Mariano Sorgente is a software engineer with a passion for blockchain, cryptocurrencies, cryptography, programming, and payments. Currently working at Chia Network as a Software Engineer, he is responsible for building an environmentally friendly, decentralized proof of space cryptocurrency. Mariano has implemented modern cryptography primitives including bls signatures, verifiable delay functions, and proofs of space. He has also developed the Chia consensus algorithm codebase and peer-to-peer network from scratch, which has hundreds of nodes and tens of petabytes active as of Jan 2021. Prior to his current role, Mariano worked at Token, Inc., where he served as Engineering Lead for frontend development. He was involved in developing and designing a secure payment system for banks, merchants, and end-users. His work included bank integrations, product and project management, system architecture, mobile and web development, security, and presales. He also worked as a Software Engineer at Token, Inc., where he contributed to the engineering, design, and architecture of the system and product. Mariano holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science from Stanford University, where he graduated in 2016. He also completed his high school education at Cypress Bay High School in 2008. With over 7.28 years of relevant experience, Mariano has a diverse tech stack that includes software engineering, blockchain, P2P, decentralized, frontend, web, mobile, research scientist, and Python. He is highly skilled in his field and has a keen interest in exploring new technologies and innovations.
