Mark Betz is a highly experienced system architect and senior software developer with over twenty years of experience in deploying web, desktop, and mobile applications and services across various domains. He has extensive experience in developing responsive web apps, native mobile apps, ecommerce, financial services, high-performance search, and digital media management. Mark has a proven track record of adding value to all stages of the software development lifecycle, from architecture and design to implementation, testing, and deployment. Currently working as a Senior DevOps Engineer at Olark, Mark has previously worked as a Senior Software Engineer at icitizen and as a Systems Architect at Knowledge in Practice LLC. At icitizen, Mark was responsible for evolving the civic engagement platform towards a stable and scalable deployment model. He converted existing services and infrastructure components to run as Docker containers on Google Container Engine (GKE/kubernetes) and deployed centralized logging and event management using ELK stack. Mark also wrote bash scripts, makefiles, and python services to automate deployment and lifecycle management of running services. He integrated in-house build tooling with CircleCI for continuous automated deployment and implemented and deployed multi-level request routing and SSL termination using haproxy. He developed the target system architecture based on containerized services implementing data aggregation, indexing, search, logging, and front-end components. Mark selected and integrated best-of-breed open-source components, including elasticsearch, haproxy, redis, celery, logstash, supervisord, django, and nginx. He also worked on a team of two developers to implement the data aggregation services in python 2.7.5 using the scrapy and scrapyd frameworks, selenium webdriver, phantomjs, and redis.
