Mark Petersen is a highly skilled Software Engineer with over 4 years of relevant experience. Currently working at Contrast Security as a Software Engineer, Mark is a part of the Dynamic Languages Team where he is responsible for working on the Ruby agent. He has a strong hold on Ruby, Frontend, and Backend technologies, which makes him a valuable asset to the team. Before joining Contrast Security, Mark worked as a Resident Advisor Mentor at the Department of Housing and Residential Education. In this role, he served as a resource and role model for the Resident Advisor staff, students in the community, and the University as a whole. He mentored both new and returning Resident Advisors by providing feedback, assistance, and support when necessary. Mark also worked as part of a 3 person Leadership Team to develop a positive team dynamic amongst a 28 person staff. He demonstrated flexible thinking in coming up with solutions “on-the-fly” and reacted well to sudden and immediate changes. Mark also worked as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at UNC Department of Computer Science. In this role, he effectively worked and coordinated with a large team to assist 800 students in a computer science course. He held weekly office hours to explain coding concepts in a one-on-one setting to students who had never programmed. Mark creatively developed different ways to best present new information and explanations to each student. He worked as a team lead, giving 5 direct reports and performance evaluations weekly and mentoring incoming team members. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
