Mark Reid is an experienced Software Engineer with a career spanning over 9 years. He is currently a Senior Software Engineer at Human Interest, where he utilizes his skills in back-end application design/architecture, JavaScript (Node.js, Django/Python, Vue, Angular, React), and SQL and noSQL design to lead a team and design infrastructure and application code at scale. Prior to joining Human Interest, Mark worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Chewse, which was later acquired by Foodee. During his time at Chewse, Mark was the sole member of the engineering team for roughly the first three months and helped re-build and grow the engineering/product team. He optimized Chewse's data warehousing/ETL pipeline using Stitch and DBT and helped define internal best practices and implemented a service-oriented architecture in Django. Mark also architected and implemented an internal decoupled front-end server using Node.js and helped architect and build the new "Meal System" which allowed customers and internal users to easily define and re-plan meals for clients based on dietary restrictions, headcount, and other options. He also architected and implemented a "recurring event" system to efficiently handle clients ordering on a schedule. Mark took on many lead responsibilities, which included interviewing, on-boarding, mentoring, and offering guidance and feedback to other engineers on the team. He worked closely with the product team to define tickets, provide estimates, and plan sprints. Before Chewse, Mark worked as a Software Engineer at Stanza where he was the lead back-end/infrastructure engineer. His responsibilities included architecting solutions for backend and infrastructure challenges, onboarding and mentoring interns and junior engineers, and being responsible for upkeep and performance of 10+ micro-services and infrastructure at scale (they serve ~100 million http requests/day). Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics from Occidental College.
