Massimiliano Tomassi is a passionate software engineer with over 14 years of relevant experience in the field. He is currently based in Rome, Italy, and is only considering remote positions at the moment. He prototyped a real-time analytics system in Scala using Apache Spark Streaming for data processing and Apache Cassandra for storing counters. He also implemented RESTful APIs for several internal backend systems using Java, Spring, and MongoDB. Massimiliano contributed to achieving a microservices architecture by extracting components with better-defined responsibilities. He implemented a high availability mechanism for a real-time ingest system using ETCD for master/slave coordination. He migrated most of the applications from ActiveMQ to Apache Kafka as a better fit for their use cases. Massimiliano managed pieces of the infrastructure on AWS and was part of the support rota, taking actions in case of applications or infrastructure faults. He also drove weekly global code reviews involving the entire team and wrote biweekly technical blog posts for the company blog. At Mfuse Ltd, Massimiliano was involved in the development and refactoring of the mobile web applications for two major online betting companies. The applications were based on a full Java stack, with Spring, Google Web Toolkit (GWT), and Hibernate as the main adopted technologies. He implemented backend components consuming external RESTful APIs and frontend components leveraging the features provided by GWT. Massimiliano also collaborated with the Test Engineers for bugs hunting and fixing. Massimiliano has a Master's Degree in Computer Engineering from the Università degli Studi Roma Tre, which he completed in 2008.
