Matt Emerson is a technical leader with over 25 years of experience in solving complex problems and building great products at industry-leading companies such as Microsoft, TiVo, Fidelity, and Smartsheet. He specializes in monolith to microservices architecture migration, API development, and Agile best practices. Currently, he is serving as the Senior Manager of Software Development at Smartsheet, where he leads product design and development from inception to launch. Matt has spearheaded the migration of the Forms feature from the Smartsheet monolith to micro-service, which has completely refreshed the user experience and delivered the #1 requested Forms Feature (#2 strategic customer feature). He has also negotiated cross-pillar feature delivery with other service teams and drives the creation of the Forms Product Roadmap in collaboration with Product Management. Matt has a proven track record of building, scaling, and directing multi-level and cross-functional teams, including recruiting technical leaders (IC and managers). He has selected and grown a four-person cross-functional team through the addition of an Engineering Manager and mixed functional team of 14 developers, to adjust to evolving OKR’s. He has also implemented a sustainable process for product feature delivery and support, including Agile methodology (both Scrum and Scrumban) to increase predictability of delivery. Prior to Smartsheet, Matt served as the Architect and Director of Analytics Server Engineering at TiVo, where he delivered a suite of Cloud-based SaaS products that enabled customers to maximize inventory and services revenue, increase operational efficiency, sell audiences by uncovering patterns in TV behavior, and deliver actionable audience-based insights. He built and managed a high-performing server development team of ten from the ground up, collaborated with the Product Management team to set feature roadmap and resolve ambiguities in requirements, and designed and implemented the TVDM (Tivo Data and Measurement) API. Matt holds a Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He has expertise in software engineering, AWS, microservices, product management, Java, Kubernetes, Javascript, Typescript, Jenkins, Frontend, Bamboo, ECS, MySQL, Integration, SQL, and Python. Overall, Matt has 21.12 years of relevant experience in the industry.
