Matt Favero is an experienced Engineering Manager at Whatnot, with a passion for using technology to create positive experiences for people. He is currently focused on bringing the experience of going to the mall with friends online. Previously, he led the engineering teams for VR Discovery & Explore at Meta, where he helped people find interesting things to do across the Metaverse. Matt's skills and expertise span leadership, people management, coaching, mentorship, tag-writing, data science, experimentation, product management, and UI/UX design. He is proficient in a range of programming languages, including JavaScript, C#, Hack, PHP, Deno/NodeJS, Java, C, C++, Rust, Python, HTML/CSS, and x86/MIPS Assembly. He is also experienced in virtual reality, augmented reality, Android, iOS, smart watches, *nix, Unity3D, React, React Native, Crypto, Web3, Solidity, sound & music production, video production, graphic design, and 3D modelling. Matt is passionate about science, technology, social science, effective altruism, education, learning, meta-*, machine learning, math, physics, and health. He has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. Matt's experience includes leading a recursive team of 20 for VR Discovery, comprised of VR Explore (home page of VR), Search, and New User Activation teams for Oculus (aka Meta Quest) headsets. He was also a software engineer at Oculus VR, where he was the tech lead for main menu Explore UI for Oculus Go, Quest, Rift, and Samsung Gear VR, developed the Oculus recommendations infrastructure, and led the development of an internal VR design tool. Matt's technical skills and relevant experience make him a valuable asset to any team in need of a senior software engineer, web3 developer, solidity expert, UI designer, product manager, data scientist, or search engineer.
