Matt Kovacs-Deak is a highly skilled PhD student in Computer Science, with a Master's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford. He has a proven track record as a software engineer, having worked in six different countries. Matt is passionate about entrepreneurship and climate action, and in his free time, he enjoys reading and swimming. He is currently self-employed as a Software Consultant, where he has helped design a new course on Artificial Intelligence for Oxford and worked with clients in the edtech space to provide advice on software issues such as performance analysis and database optimization. He has also contracted with the Oxford Department of Psychiatry, where he built deep-learning based computer vision models to accelerate drug discovery, achieving over 99% accuracy on discriminating un/treated microglia samples using PyTorch and FastAI. In the past, Matt has worked as an AI & Research Intern and Software Engineer Intern at Microsoft. During his time there, he devised and implemented automated approaches to augment Cortana's existing knowledge to deepen its natural language understanding, and worked with Microsoft researchers and engineers on a project aimed at helping environmental researchers identify arctic seals using deep learning. He also worked with the Office People team on integrating Office 365 & LinkedIn across all mobile apps of O365, such as Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint. Matt has a diverse tech stack, including expertise in Computer Vision, Research Scientist, AI, PHP, MySQL, MongoDB, Pytorch, Deep Learning, AngularJS, Tensorflow, Pandas, Software Engineer, Python, Typescript, Redux, Microservices, Mobile, and Objective-c. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Quantum Computation at the University of Maryland, Matt is a highly motivated individual with 2.80 years of relevant experience. His passion for entrepreneurship and climate action, combined with his exceptional technical skills, make him a valuable asset to any team.
