Matt Leick is a Lead Engineer (Backend) at Mango Health with a passion for merging design and function to create unique and memorable web applications that are client-focused and speedy under load. He has a diverse skill-set that includes Rails, Ruby, Python, PHP, JavaScript, Marionette, Backbone, React, HTML5, CSS, Git, and SQL, and is always eager to learn more. Matt has a proven track record of scaling legacy back-ends to meet growing customer demand and leading development teams to redesign customer-facing displays. He has also taken on side projects, such as building a trio of web applications for a mid-size car dealership, where he owned the entire process from schema design to deployment on Amazon Web Services. Matt's creativity and problem-solving skills have allowed him to excel in these roles and deliver exceptional results. Before pursuing web development, Matt worked with adults with mental illness to find and keep housing, moved to Italy to learn Italian, drawn his own comics, directed a few short films, and traveled through Australia and Southeast Asia. These experiences have given him a unique perspective and a well-rounded set of skills that he brings to his work. Matt's past experience at Mango Health includes being the primary owner of the backend technology stack, managing Django APIs, Redis cache, RabbitMQ/Celery workers, MySQL databases, and AWS stack. He has also improved and supported a Django API deployed in AWS, managed with Chef, using Redis as a caching system and Celery/RabbitMQ as an async message delivery system. Matt has utilized Agile development methodologies focused on ownership from concept to deploy and support, including full test coverage. Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Italian Studies from the University of Minnesota and completed a Rails/Javascript program at App Academy. He also studied Literature and Modern History at the Università di Bologna.
