Matt Werner is a full stack web developer currently working as an Actuarial Associate at New York Life Insurance Company. He has a passion for bug hunting, refactoring, and writing clean code. Matt is a team player who values collaboration and community. He believes in the importance of preparation, process, hard work, accountability, and team-building. Matt has played hockey for many years, which has instilled these values in him. Before joining New York Life, Matt worked as an English as a Second Language Teacher at IES San Agustin de Guadalix in Madrid, Spain. He taught high school students, developed lessons and activities for a range of student aptitudes, facilitated a productive, interactive, and welcoming learning environment, and collaborated with teachers to strategize and implement new techniques and methodologies. Matt also worked as a Lead Engineer at Timeshel Inc. where he was the sole engineer responsible for finishing and launching the React web app, fixing bugs and improving performance of the React Native mobile app, maintaining and optimizing the Rails backend, implementing new product features and updates, overhauling the admin, and helping to resolve customer support issues. He managed third party integrations, including Stripe, Sentry, Customer.io, and TravisCI. Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Statistics and Economics from Williams College. He also attended Flatiron School for web development in 2019. Matt has 6.36 years of relevant experience and is skilled in web, senior software engineering, mobile, backend, Ruby, and React Native.
