Matt Zhao is a highly skilled Software Engineer and Research Scientist with almost 10 years of relevant experience in the field. He is currently working at Google as a Software Engineer, Machine Learning, where he is involved in Google Research, Biometric Authentication. Prior to joining Google, Matt worked at Amazon as a Software Development Engineer II, where he was responsible for building a pipeline to facilitate finetuning of a pretrained bi-LSTM-CRF model for NLU (intent and entity recognition) with Docker containers to fit inside existing workflow. He also productionized end-to-end inference stack running Intent Classification and NER for dialog system. One of his notable achievements at Amazon was designing a POMDP dialog simulator that generates dialogs via self-play between a seeker and provider agent, which was accepted to NeurIPS 2020: Human in the Loop Dialogue Systems Workshop. Before Amazon, Matt worked as a Research Assistant at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he worked on multitask learning for medical images (radiographs). Matt holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He also attended Newport Senior High School. His technical skills include Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Android, and Docker.
