Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Cruise
About
Matthew Elkherj is a highly experienced Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Cruise, with over 8 years of relevant experience in the field. He has worked on and led teams through all parts of the process of shipping machine learning models, including problem scoping, data collection/curation, algorithm development and iteration, evaluation, scaling, and long-term maintainability. Currently, as the Tech Lead for the Prediction Data Team at Cruise, he has led the team in employing a new machine learning approach to selecting and weighing data being fed into the production prediction neural network models. Some of the new technology he has built is showcased at 29:11 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJWN0K26NxQ&t=1751s. Prior to Cruise, Matthew worked at Palantir Technologies as a Lead Machine Learning Engineer, where he led the design and development of machine learning products for commercial and government customers. These products were directly responsible for winning contracts worth hundreds of millions USD. One of his core offerings at Palantir was a machine learning-based entity recommendation system called Ava, which was sold to government customers. He has also worked on systems that utilize machine learning methods including image segmentation, entity extraction from text, sensor time series correlation and similarity, record linkage, propensity modeling, geo-temporal event prediction, and others. These systems are used in production at commercial and government institutions, for application domains including fraud, insurance, retail, cyber, manufacturing, advertising, defense, intelligence, and law enforcement. Matthew holds a Ph.D. candidate/MS degree in Machine Learning from the University of California, San Diego, and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics/Computer Science from Dartmouth College. His tech stack includes ML, recommendation system, neural networks, senior software engineer, and image segmentation. Overall, Matthew is a highly skilled and experienced machine learning engineer, with a proven track record of leading successful projects and delivering high-quality products.
