Matthew Gertz is a highly experienced Principal Software Architect at Microsoft with over 34 years of relevant experience. He has a diverse background that includes robotics, web application development and deployment, writing and maintaining performant code, designing and maintaining engineering systems that increase employee through-put, working closely with employees to grow enjoyable and challenging careers, working directly with customers to ensure satisfaction with our products, and extensive writing on a variety of subjects. Matthew has a proven track record of success in people management, user interfaces, web services/cloud engineering, performance, language editors, end-to-end engineering systems design and maintenance, documentation and writing, and customer outreach. He is currently working with the Microsoft Redis team on streamlining processes for that technology. Prior to that, he researched architectures to improve parity between the Windows and Mac offerings of Visual Studio, with a special focus on .NET development. He is also leading the effort to refine and refresh hiring processes in Microsoft's Developer Division, with a particular attention on disabled and neurodiverse hiring. Matthew has held several leadership positions at Microsoft, including Director of Engineering for Mobile IDE, Developer Division at Microsoft and Principal Group Manager/Chief of Operations, Mobile Tools, Developer Division. In these roles, he oversaw various people and process issues within both Mobile Tools and the Developer Division at large including training, recruiting, mentorship, onboarding, operational activities, and general release-related activities. Matthew holds a high school diploma from Monroe High School in Michigan. He has a strong tech stack that includes Senior Software Engineer, Mobile, Web, Redis, Android, iOS, and UI. With his extensive experience and expertise, Matthew is a valuable asset to any organization.
