Mausumi Acharyya is a social tech entrepreneur and expert in imaging and AI with over 18 years of relevant experience. She is the Founder and CEO of Advenio, which is now known as ChironX, and an Unreasonable Fellow. Mausumi is passionate about disruptive, affordable, and equitable healthcare and aims to bring in innovative vendor-neutral AI plug-ins for rapid and consistent diagnosis of critical health conditions in resource-limited, high-burden care and emergency units. Mausumi's current focus is on the development and validation of AI tools for retinal abnormality detection and acute respiratory infections. Her prior works include the development of AI-based algorithms for identifying lesions/abnormalities in lung X-Ray and CT images, pulmonary embolism detection and scoring in CTPA, bleed identification in brain CT images, automatic detection of body parts in CT images, lesion detection in mammograms, and detection of tuberculosis from sputum smears. Mausumi has been actively involved in creating intellectual property awareness and facilitating IP generation in her previous and present engagements. She is interested in state-of-the-art research in domains as per emerging market trends and publishing papers and filing disclosures. Mausumi holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, and has completed a Post-Doc in Medical Image Analysis from the University of Pennsylvania. She also holds an M.Tech in Radiophysics & Electronics and a B.Tech in Radiophysics & Electronics from the University of Calcutta, and a B.Sc. in Physics (Hons) from Bethune College. Mausumi's past companies include Advenio Tecnosys, where she served as Founder, CEO & Technology Head, and GE Global Research, Bangalore, India, where she worked as a Lead Engineer and researched medical image analysis with a focus on image processing, pattern recognition, and machine learning. Currently, Mausumi is a Fellow at Unreasonable, an organization, investment fund, and private global network dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs positioned to solve social and environmental challenges leveraging profit. Unreasonable's mission is to drive resources into and break down barriers for select companies that are bent on bending history in the right direction.
