Mekka Okereke is a highly accomplished Director of Engineering at Google, with over 20 years of experience in designing, building, and launching successful products. Currently, he is leading the Play Growth team at Google, managing the online store for Google Play, which is one of the largest digital ecosystems worldwide. Mekka has also proposed, founded, and led the Growth team for Google Play, which takes a sustainable and customer-friendly approach to growth. Prior to joining Google, Mekka worked at Amazon, where he played a key role in building the Amazon Appstore and launching the Kindle Fire. He is proud of his achievements at Amazon and has a strong track record of delivering successful products. Mekka is a specialist in mobile apps, mobile web, APIs, wireless, software design, CTO, iOS, Objective-C, Android, Java, and Javascript. Mekka is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion and has worked with the Black Googler Network to promote under-represented groups in technology. He has also built a diverse team at Google and believes that diverse teams build better products. Mekka is a graduate of Pomona College, where he earned a BA in Computer Science. Mekka has a proven ability to think up, start, and run companies, and some of his products and companies have been very well received. He was featured in the Inc Magazine Article "Facing the Capital Gap" a long time ago.
