Mert Çetin is a highly skilled Director of Software Engineering, currently leading the software engineering department at unu. With over 12 years of relevant experience in the industry, he has successfully led the transition from a siloed software engineering department to empowered and self-accountable smaller squads of developers, product designers, and product managers. Mert is also responsible for the hiring efforts during high-growth phases, taking over a 10-developer single team and growing the team in alignment with company goals to a total of 24 developers distributed into 5 squads joined by product managers and product designers. He has taken a servant leadership role as “Chapter Lead” with a focus on growth, personal development, and mentorship. He has played an active role in organizational development and was a member of the organizational development committee, which set the company’s operational and process structures and guidelines. Mert has also built and nurtured a DevOps culture initially in the Software Engineering Department and then throughout the whole company, injecting a "you build it you own it mentality" and “end-to-end responsibility” to all software developers via a strict Infrastructure-as-code mindset. He has fully automated CI/CD pipelines from commit to deployment in production with fully automated intermediate testing environments and ephemeral review apps. Mert's past experience includes working as a Lead Software Architect at unu gmbh and a Software Architect at emlakjet, a young, innovation-driven real-estate listings startup in Turkey. He was responsible for designing the tech stack, crafting end-to-end software architecture, helping HR pick the right candidates for the job, training and mentoring them, and overseeing the process of transitioning from the ancient LAMP stack to the novel scalable Node.js microservices with polyglot DBs and continuous integration. Mert holds a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Electronics Engineering and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Microelectronics from Sabancı Üniversitesi. His technical skills include CI/CD, Senior Software Engineering, test, DevOps, infra, Javascript, NodeJS, Redis, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Elastic Search, Microservices, Integration, and AngularJS.
