Michael Dippery is a seasoned Senior Software Engineer with over 14 years of experience in the industry. He is currently working at DITTO, where he has led the transition of the codebase from Python 2 to Python 3. Michael has designed inter-application communication between distributed systems running in AWS and redesigned a CI/CD pipeline in Jenkins to support testing using Docker and tox. He introduced the engineering team to Terraform and improved the deployment of cloud infrastructure. Michael designed an application to return recommendations for eyeglasses based on face shape, prescription strength, and other factors. He has also advised upper management on technical aspects of the company’s operations and reviewed design and architecture of iOS applications and libraries written in Swift and Objective-C. Michael has previously worked at Industrial Light & Magic as a Software Developer, where he modified and enhanced Python GTK+ applications. He maintained and enhanced a digital asset management (DAM) suite and production tracking tool for artists. Michael created and maintained Linux-based web servers in a virtualized computing environment and developed Python web applications using both the Pylons and Flask web frameworks. He also wrote front-end code for web applications in JavaScript using React.js. Michael designed and implemented a new protocol for ILM's database-pooling service and received VFX credits in "Captain America: Civil War", "The Revenant", and "The Last Jedi". Michael has also worked at SocialCode as a Software Engineer, where he developed crawlers for collecting stats data from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest ads APIs in Python and Erlang. He optimized the performance of a MySQL database with several hundred gigabytes of data and wrote a Haskell utility to parse MySQL dump files and convert them for import into a different database structure. Michael troubleshooted issues with distributed web crawlers, including issues with the Celery message queue, and configured server deployment using Chef. Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Computer Science from Bucknell University.
