Maintainer of the Linux man-pages project, a collection of approximately 950 manual pages documenting Linux system calls and GNU C library functions (Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Linux manual pages; see http://www.kernel.org/doc/man-pages/). As maintainer, I have made 175 releases of man-pages (as at January 2017). As well as reviewing and integrating new pages and patches from others, I am also the most prolific contributor to man-pages, having authored around 180 manual pages, co-authored over 200 others, and updated hundreds of others.  In this role, I am also active in testing and design review of Linux kernel-userspace interfaces.

The goal of GENIVI is to transform the in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) industry by creating a standardized, open source base platform shared by all participants. I worked in a range of areas inside GENIVI, including: system architecture, construction and implementation of a compliance program, and providing general guidance on open source issues and open source liaison. I was also heavily involved in legal aspects of Alliance work, working on copyright and licensing issues as well as the design of an open source software release process.

Working on design review and testing of new Linux kernel-userspace interfaces (this primarily involved a lot of C programming, as well as some scripting) and Linux documentation, especially the Linux man-pages project.  In this role, I also edited and shepherded documentation submitted by others, and submitted a lot of bug reports against the Linux kernel and the GNU C library. Design and programming on a range of Internet projects, with particular emphasis on mobile client devices.  During this time, I developed a proof-of-concept tool, wapsh (http://freshmeat.net/projects/wapsh/), which, within the confines of the WAP protocol and the then rather small phone displays, allowed users to login to a UNIX system via a mobile phone, execute shell commands, and view their output.
