He is a hands-on Solution Architect who specializes in Big Data and Java technologies. Michael has been working exclusively in the Big Data space since 2011 and has spent about 8 years working on Java technologies, Business Intelligence, and Data Warehousing prior to that. Michael is a certified Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop (CCDH) and Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform 1.4. He is also a Microstrategy 8 Certified Report Developer, Microstrategy 8 Certified Project Designer, Microstrategy 8 Certified Platform Administrator, and Microstrategy 8 Certified Web Developer. Currently, Michael works at phData, which is the world’s largest pure-play Big Data services firm. The company partners with customers to provide architecture, development, and managed services for Big Data applications. Michael is responsible for providing solutions to customers and ensuring that the company's services are delivered with excellence. In the past, Michael has worked at Optum and Supervalu as a Big Data Solution Architect/Developer. At Optum, he was involved in design and development using Schema evolution, Avro, Kite SDK, Java, Hive, HBase, Sqoop, and Oozie. At Supervalu, Michael was responsible for design and development using HBase, Spark (using Scala), Linux Scripting, Impala, Sqoop, Hive, Java, Kafka, and Solr. He also worked on Hadoop Administration & System Engineering and Hadoop POCs. Michael has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Augsburg University, a Master of Science degree in Biomechanics from St. Cloud State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science & Sports Medicine from the University of St. Thomas.
