Michael Sarahan is a highly skilled Software Engineer with over 12 years of experience in the field. His current position is with RStudio PBC, where he focuses on making software work for data scientists. Michael's passion lies in making things work and doing so in ways that are easy to maintain and improve. He is a strong advocate for open-source software and believes that collaboration is key to moving forward in the industry. Before joining RStudio PBC, Michael worked with Anaconda Inc. as a Principal Software Engineer and Manager. He contributed to and managed the team behind the Anaconda Distribution. He also worked with Continuum Analytics as a Senior Software Engineer, where he led the conda-build project, developed matrix build and cross-compiling capabilities, and created, updated, or improved Conda recipes for many packages in the Anaconda ecosystem. Michael is also an expert in teaching Python/Conda packaging and has assisted in creating and administering the community packaging effort at Continuum, including leadership in the conda-forge community. He has also implemented, fixed, and added to data analysis programs and workflows for the DARPA MEMEX project. Michael's educational background includes a PhD in Materials Science from the University of California, Davis, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Texas A&M University.
