Michael Sung is a Director of Engineering with over 8 years of management experience and 15 years of overall software development experience. He has built teams of up to 30 engineers in the US and internationally, with a diverse technical background in mobile, full stack/backend, operating systems, and hardware. Michael has a track record of product success, leading teams that released successful products ranging from B2C (gaming, social) and B2B (IT, security). He is a wearer of multiple hats, including product and project management, at companies ranging from seed/tiny to public/large. Currently, Michael is the Director of Engineering at Hopper, where he leads the development of their travel booking platform. Prior to this, he was the Senior Engineering Manager of Device Management at Rippling, where he grew the team from 5 to 15 engineers across multiple offices and reduced agent error rate by 75%, improved infra uptime from 0 to 4 9’s, and improved ARR by 20%, cut churn rate by 50%, and supported a CSAT score at 9.8/10. He also launched a major new product line, Inventory Management. Before Rippling, Michael was the CTO of The Relish Media Group, a seed-stage startup building a video social network for female sports fans, which was later acquired by Rebel Girls. He prototyped the iOS video app and Firebase in just three months with a small, two-developer team. Michael holds two BS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He has a strong technical background in senior software engineering, mobile, backend, software engineering, infra, and iOS. With almost 16 years of relevant experience, Michael is a seasoned professional who has proven his ability to lead successful teams and deliver successful products.
