Senior Technical Management position in lodging services at Expedia, Inc.  Managing growth of the team while driving a rapid change from waterfall software development to Agile.  Implementing a prioritization process for multiple competing business teams as well as internal architectural and service health initiatives.  Balancing business priorities with engineering resources for three engineering teams consisting of multiple scrum teams in the U.S. and Asia.  As a critical service provider for all of Expedia's buisnesses, we must also balance considerable customer support demands with our new product development efforts.  Our services include solutions developed in C++, C#, Java, and SQL.

In my time on this team we have improved our productivity significantly.  Previously the team had been thrashing through a steady flow of incoming support issues and a host of competing priorities for new features.  Management by escalation resulted in frequent changes in direction.  Business teams were frustrated and were losing confidence in the team.  The transition to Agile, and the creation of a prioritized backlog has significantly improved our output of new features and our predictability to our service clients.  The close association with Product managers from all of the Expedia brands has restored confidence in the team.  Future work includes managing architectural changes necessary to enable significant growth in volume of calls into our services, verbosity of responses needed, and inventory size.

Management of teams of OEM focused software engineers in three countries; teams consisted of software development engineers, software program managers, and software test engineers in the Windows Phone Division.  My teams provided development and trouble shooting of drivers and applications for Windows Smartphones.  We also provided sample code, white papers, onsite training, and deep technical support of OEM engineers.  We were responsible for assisting OEMs in development and delivery of prototype development units for Microsoft's Windows Phone division engineers for Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8.  We saw a dramatic shift in customer satisfaction when I shifted the focus of the team from simply delivering software to enabling OEMs to get high quality devices to market on time.  The sense of ownership of the devices affected what the team did and how they did it, but more importantly shifted their relationship with our OEM partners.
