OkCredit is a mobile application to help micro businesses collect their receivables faster and also pay their payables on time. We have more than 30 Lakh (3 Million) MSMEs who use our products actively across India. OkCredit app gives us access to extensive proprietary data on these MSMEs, helping us create an informal credit score (OkScore). We partner with banks & other financial institutions to provide loans to these MSMEs. Our mission is to create a digital footprint for MSMEs and improve financial inclusion in India.

I’ve been dealing with some toxic family members who act in harmful ways, but I’m still expected to… respect them just because they’re older. I don’t agree. “Respect your elders” usually means don’t question them and keep tolerating their bad behaviour. That’s a problem. Respect isn’t about age. It’s about how you treat people. Blind respect only keeps the harmful cycles alive. I will never have kids, but I hope the younger ones in my life respect me for how I treat them - not because I’m older. To me, respect is simple - you have to give it to get it. #HarshRealities

People say, “Harsh, you were just lucky. Right place, right time. Anyone could have done it if they were there” And I tell them… “You’re right. I was at the right place, right time. Call it luck, but the key is - I was there” Actually I’ve been in other situations too Right place, wrong time? Our first startup, Meishi, kept your contact book updated in case your friends changed their number. It solved a real problem. But then mobile number portability came in & killed it. Wrong place, wrong time? We built a blockchain solution for corporates. Never took off. You all know me for 2 things - OkCredit and my LinkedIn posts. But there are 22 other stories - some good, some bad, some just okay. The only reason I landed in the right place at the right time? Because I didn’t stop showing up :) #HarshRealities

Manifestation coaches are a scam. Let me explain… They say the universe wants you to be rich. All you need is the right mindset and money will flow to you. That’s bullshit. Their pitch goes something like - “I was broke just like you. Now I’m thriving, so I’ll teach you how to do it” They call it manifestation. I call it manipulation. I didn’t “manifest” OkCredit or my 47,000 LinkedIn subscribers (thank you all, by the way 🙏🏽🙌🏽) I worked for it and made it happen. So why give credit to “the universe” for what we did? That’s giving away our power. Don’t do that. And have you seen those ads? “Manifest your partner in 21 days” Cmon, how’s this not a scam? I understand that not having belief in ourselves is real. If we don’t believe we’re capable or deserving of a better life, it’s hard to take action. And It’s tempting to believe that someone else has the answer to fix everything. But they don’t. The more we rely on others to fix our problems, the more we get scammed. So yes, believe in yourself. Shift your mindset. Take action. But stop wasting your money on people promising quick fixes. You’re the one who creates your life. #HarshRealities

The biggest mistake we made at OkCredit that almost killed us (and you’ll make it too 🤷🏽♂️) After raising Series A & B, we fell victim to the classic trap - trying to do everything at once. We launched OkShop, OkSales, OkPay, OkBill, OkSalary, OkPayLater, marketed on every social media platform, added 12 languages, and more ideas I don’t even remember now 🤯 I thought juggling it all was a badge of honor. It wasn’t. It nearly killed us. Why? Doing too much spreads you thin. You end up with okay products, and no one loves an okay product. Users want amazing, not average. We learned the hard way that focus is everything. Companies that win are obsessive about doing one thing really, really well. When we realized our mistake, we dropped everything and went all in on OkLoan - partnering with NBFCs and banks to provide loans and drive financial inclusion. That focus changed everything. 65,000 loans. ₹400+ cr disbursed. NPAs under 2.5%. 🏆 The lesson? Focus. Do one thing really well. That’s how you win. #HarshRealities

We had to lay off 70 people while optimizing our burn over 2 years back. Here’s how it went ⬇ It was one of toughest decisions we made. But we did our best to take care of the people we had to let go. 📍As founders, we spoke to each of the 70 people personally to tell them why we had to take this decision & how we’re ready to help them with anything they need 📍Gave them a 3-month notice 📍Provided all of them with outplacement support. 📍Utilised our networks to help them get jobs at the earliest. As a result, 67 out of those 70 folks got placed within 3 month's notice period. We gave an extra 2-month salary to the remaining 3 folks who couldn’t get a job. ----- 25000+ startup employees were laid off this year. It may be unavoidable but the way many companies are laying people off is heartbreaking. A surprise email or revoking their access to office without any prior info is not the way to part ways with your own employees. This is inhuman. Handling layoffs is extremely difficult but treating people with respect and compassion in the process is possible. When you hire someone, you have a big responsibility to take care of them, even when you have to let them go. I know how tough it is to have such conversations but you signed up for it as a founder. If you can make them feel like family while hiring, treat them like a family while letting them go too.

Here’s what I’ve seen after investing in 36 startups👇🏽 One of the biggest mistakes founders make is - assuming that raising a seed round means they’ve achieved PMF It’s because they assume that investors are very smart, and because these investors have invested in their company, it must mean their company will become the Next Big Thing ! Unfortunately, that’s rarely the case. Most investors have backed dozens of failed companies. As a founder, You know whether you have PMF. You know whether your margins are positive or negative. You know whether your product is actually solving the customer’s problem. Don’t let the hype fool you. Funding doesn’t mean PMF. Stay grounded. Focus on your customers. And don’t let anyone convince you that you’re further along than you actually are :) #HarshRealities

STOP building your product further STOP beautifying your website or application STOP adding that extra feature no one asked for yet The biggest mistake we, as founders make is - Overthinking the launch We want to get everything perfect before launching the product. Perfect website/app, perfect branding, perfect GTM. The reality is, most likely, when you launch your product, no one will care. User feedback makes you realize that nobody wanted that feature that you worked your ass off for 6 months. Motivation drops & before you know it, your startup is dead. Instead, follow this: Build an MVP > Ship it asap > Get feedback > Iterate Remember - Launching a product is not a one-time thing. It happens continuously. The spirit of “always be shipping” goes the longest way, not the spirit of “perfection” #HarshRealities

It’s easier to build a hard company than an easy one 😌 If you're building a photo sharing app, nobody cares. But if you're building flying cars or a nuclear fusion company, people would proactively want to help you, work with you, write about you, because they want to be a part of the next big thing So if you really want to build a big company, start a hard company. Let yourself become more ambitious - and be willing to make a very long term commitment to what you’re doing. Most people aren’t willing to make that commitment, which is the reason why they pick ‘easy startups’ 🤷🏽♂️

I've hired 200+ employees in the last 6 years. Here's something that no one talks about… When an individual does not perform, employers start blaming the employee without taking a look at their own work culture. If your work environment is poor - lame policies, no clear work scope, bad managers, a bureaucratic approach, even a rockstar won’t be able to do their best work. Cut the crap & you will see that people are waiting to do great work. Rockstar environments develop out of trust, autonomy & responsibility. If you struggle to hire or retain great talent, audit your work culture. When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower 🌸
