Mumtaz Vauhkonen is an accomplished Principal Data Scientist with over 11 years of experience in the field of Machine Learning and Statistical learning. She has a Ph.D. in Computational Science and Engineering from UIUC and has completed coursework from Stanford. Mumtaz has a proven track record of developing enterprise software and algorithms for autonomous systems. Currently, Mumtaz is working as the Principal Data Scientist and Head of Computer Vision AI&D at Verizon. In this role, she is responsible for leading the development of Computer Vision and AI solutions that drive business value for the company. Prior to joining Verizon, Mumtaz was self-employed and worked on startup research initiatives. She conducted product research and experiments on algorithms for connecting the scene context in perception for autonomous systems to Natural Language Processing. She also developed a meta language object reference model. Mumtaz has also worked as a Lead Data Scientist for Ford, where she developed machine learning solutions to improve the company's products and services. Mumtaz has a strong educational background, with a Master's degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. Her Ph.D. specialization was in Statistics & Computation Science and Engineering, with a focus on Machine Learning and Data Mining. She has also completed graduate coursework towards a Ph.D. at Stanford University, where she worked on a research project in Deep Learning and took courses in Machine Learning, Data Mining, and Statistical learning.
