Neil Pilgrim is a highly skilled Software Developer, Semiconductor Physicist, and Educator with over a decade of experience in writing and maintaining efficient portable object-oriented C++ code in a research environment. He has a keen interest in open-source projects and has contributed significantly to the Python aspects of the Zulip team-chat project. Neil has also worked as a Lead Modeler in multi-institution projects for over 8 years, where he expanded his PhD Monte Carlo semiconductor device simulation to support multiple material systems and additional physical phenomena. His contributions led to his co-authoring of 25+ publications. As an Educator, Neil has delivered undergraduate courses for three years and volunteered for over two years at the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI) in multiple roles. He is enthusiastic and motivated, and he feels satisfied when he can successfully integrate his communications into the learner's pre-existing knowledge. Neil is currently a Developer at the Zulip open-source project, where he has authored over 900 merged commits across multiple Zulip projects since PyCon 2017 sprints. He is the project lead of the zulip-terminal project and has mentored multiple Google Summer of Code (GSoC) students and new contributors. Neil has developed interpersonal and team experience online through Zulip and GitHub and has knowledge and experience of testing approaches such as unittest, pytest, travis, and mypy. Neil has a Certificate in Counselling Skills from the University of Aberdeen, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physics/Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Leeds, and an MSci (Hons) (Dunelm) in Theoretical Physics from Durham University. His relevant experience spans 17.87 years, and he is seeking a position that encompasses one or more of his areas of expertise to broaden and expand his horizons and creatively exercise his technical skills upon meaningful projects.
