Nick Malaguti is a Director of Software Engineering at Wiley with over a decade of experience in software engineering, tech leadership, and management. He has worked with companies ranging from startups to large global organizations and has led platform and product teams across the entire stack, from frontend to backend, databases, CI/CD, containerized deployments, monitoring, alerting, and more. Nick is a collaborative leader who partners with product, design, and business to deliver value to customers. He is a passionate technologist who loves getting into the weeds on technology and integrating engineering best practices into the team’s processes and culture. Currently, Nick is the Director of Solutions Engineering at Narmi. Previously, he worked as the Director of Software Engineering at Wiley/Knewton, where he oversaw 3 product engineering teams and worked across product, design, content, and infra to deliver value to customers. He also managed the workstreams of two offshore teams and integrated them into the Knewton engineering organization. Nick developed a separate engineering team to own the Knewton Enterprise Platform and transform it into a common Wiley service. He presented at regular program-wide check-ins, established metrics and best practices for onshore/offshore team collaboration, oversaw the delivery of high impact initiatives for customers including large UX overhauls, and maintained service uptime and reliability in the face of increasing demand for online learning due to COVID-19. Before joining Wiley/Knewton, Nick worked as a Software Engineering Manager at Knewton, where he led and managed a high impact team of full-stack software engineers. He planned and executed 2 week “agile” sprints, regularly scheduled team retrospectives to iterate and improve on team processes, promoted a comprehensive software development lifecycle involving planning, iterative development, code review, CI/CD, testing in staging environments, and comprehensive monitoring and alerting, and encouraged professional growth across the company with internal talks and training.
