Nino Pereira
Principal Software Engineer | PhD in Leaders for Technical Industries
About
Nino Pereira is a highly skilled Principal Robotics Engineer with over 10 years of experience in the electronics, software, and robotics industry. He has worked with some of the most innovative international companies and organizations, including Dyson, European Patent Office, SAR, BOSH, and BIAL, developing complex and robust systems. Nino is passionate about challenging projects and stimulating environments, and he works collaboratively with colleagues and team members to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Nino holds a PhD from MIT – Portugal program in Leaders for Technical Industries, and he recently completed the Self-Driving Car Engineering Nanodegree program from Udacity. He has solid academic background in Electronics and Computer Engineering, and his interests include algorithm development, motion control, trajectory tracking, path planning, sensor fusion, mapping, and localization. He is also proficient in C/C++, Matlab, Python, Linux, ROS, and Gazebo. Nino's highlighted projects include the Dyson 360 Eye robot vacuum cleaner, which uses a 360-degree vision system for autonomous navigation. He developed a new path deformation algorithm that combines both motion control and trajectory tracking functionalities, taking into account the exact geometry of the robot and its kinematic constraints. He also worked on the Golf ball Picker Robot, a mobile robot for picking balls autonomously in golf driving ranges. He developed a new path planning algorithm for multiple non-mandatory targets, TWIN-RRT*, which enables efficient asymptotically optimal trajectories to be generated in real-time for up to 20,000 targets. Currently, Nino is working as a Principal Robotics Engineer at Dyson, where he has held several positions, including Associate Principal Robotics Engineer and Senior Robotics Algorithms Engineer. His current responsibilities include investigations in five areas: path planning, motion control, sensors, 3D simulation, and mapping. He collaborates with the architecture team to identify functional requirements in three mobile robotic projects and guides and mentors fellow robotic engineers. Nino's tech stack includes software engineering, object detection, computer vision, deep learning, mobile, ML, Python, C, and test. With 6.36 years of relevant experience, Nino is a valuable asset to any team looking to develop cutting-edge robotics systems.
