Nishtha Madaan is an accomplished Research Scientist with over 5 years of experience in the field of AI and Machine Learning. Currently working as an Advisory Research Scientist at IBM Research India, Nishtha is responsible for designing and developing NLP and Machine Learning-based solutions for businesses with a focus on Data for AI, Fairness, and Algorithmic Bias. Her work involves building reliable AI solutions for NLP-based models, which involve fairness testing, sensitivity analysis, checking spurious correlations, and adversarial attacks. Nishtha has been leading multiple academic research collaborations and has mentored over 30 students. Her work has been covered by leading newspapers, blogs, and also featured in MIT Technology Review. She has co-authored several research papers published in renowned computer science journals and conferences. Nishtha has delivered many talks and guest lectures at national and international venues like EPFL Switzerland, GHCI, FES Berlin, NUS Singapore, etc. She has been named amongst the Top 100 Women in AI Ethics globally. Nishtha holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Deep Learning and NLP from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and a BTech + MS by research in Computer Science from IIIT Hyderabad. She also has a Diploma Degree in Enterprise Modelling from the University of Vienna. Nishtha's tech stack includes Research Scientist, AI, NLP, ML, and Deep Learning. She has previously worked as an Advisory Research Engineer and Staff Research Engineer at IBM, where she focused on building models on structured and unstructured data using Deep Learning. In 2019, she was recognized as one among the Top 100 Women in AI Ethics. Nishtha is a passionate mentor who has been mentoring students from different academic institutes to co-create technologies in the area.
