Noor Afshan Fathima is a Software Engineering Fellow at CERN, where she is part of the team building OpenWebSearch.EU. She is a full-stack engineer with experience in Agile methodologies, using technologies such as ES6, React, Typescript, Nodejs, Clojure, Python, Postgres, Elastic Search, Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, Openstack, and AWS. Noor is passionate about diversity and inclusion advocacy, especially for disability inclusion, and is actively involved in CERN WIT and Hackahealth organizations. She has received grants and scholarships from Google GHC and GHCI, Google WTM (Anita Borg), and IEEE-CS Richard E. Merwin. Before joining CERN, Noor co-founded Modulus, a software services startup specializing in mobile application development involving Augmented Reality Technology and Game Development. She is also a FOSS enthusiast and actively involved in community outreach activities. At CERN, Noor has worked on several projects, including building CERN's institutional open-source "Search as a Service" platform and contributing to CERN IT's "Web-Services portal" project with full-stack web development tasks. She has also won the CERN Global Webfest 2021. Noor has a Master's degree in Information Technology and Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology, a PG Certification in Networks and Communications from the same institution, and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from PES College of Engineering, Mandya. She has also completed a Full Stack Web Development and Functional Programming boot camp from Geekskool. Noor's technical skills include Web Development, Search, AWS, Infra, Docker, Postgres, Python, Elastic Search, Mobile, Redux, Kubernetes, Typescript, Flask, Frontend, Backend, Clojure, Microservices, and CI/CD. With 3.28 years of relevant experience, Noor strives to engineer a better world around us through the power of Design+Technology in order to solve meaningful problems and build a society that is inclusive and sustainable.
