Oliver Hookins is an accomplished Engineering Manager with over 23 years of experience in the software industry. Currently, he is working at Atlassian as an Engineering Manager, leading the Kubernetes team. In this role, he is responsible for coordinating and planning various initiatives that cater to the internal compute platform needs of Atlassian. He has worked on build jobs and long-lived services across more than 30 clusters and thousands of nodes. Before joining Atlassian, Oliver worked at Contentful as both an Engineering Manager and a Reliability Engineer. As a Reliability Engineer, he worked on infrastructure, CDNs, automation, and developer productivity. As an Engineering Manager, he led the Backend JavaScript Chapter and focused on teams working on the Content Delivery aspects of the platform. He also looked towards delivery efficiencies, Agile workflows, growing individuals and teams, and balancing feature delivery with the technical health of the platform. Oliver has a strong technical background and is proficient in Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, Chef, Go, Javascript, Ruby, and Python. He has extensive experience in SRE and Backend development. He completed his education from the University of Sydney, where he obtained a degree in Software Engineering. Oliver is a skilled leader, mentor, and team player.
