Patrick Newman is an experienced Engineering Leader with a passion for building environments that help individuals and teams achieve their best work. With over 33 years of relevant experience, he has worked for some of the biggest tech companies in the world, including Twitter, Google, and currently Amazon Web Services (AWS). In his current role as Engineering Leadership at AWS, Patrick is responsible for computing bills for AWS customers. He is a technical nomad who enjoys solving critical problems that are hidden behind the scenes. He believes that his experience at both big tech companies and scrappy startups has made him a more well-rounded person, and he strives to share his knowledge with colleagues across levels. Patrick is also passionate about supporting individuals and helping them reach their career goals. He finds the happiest days of his professional career to be the times he got to promote someone. He is a creative individual who draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including the film Yellow Submarine, Hayao Miyazaki, and Banksy. In his past roles, Patrick has made significant contributions in engineering leadership and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). At Google, he was a program lead on major projects, performed effective roadmapping and quarterly OKR planning, and resolved complex incidents as an SRE on-call. He also authored and shared documents about conflict resolution and people management, read by over 1000 Googlers at the time of his departure. Patrick holds a BS in Information Systems from Depaul University and participated in a foreign study program at Kansai Gaidai University. His technical stack includes AWS, Senior Software Engineer, SRE, and GCP.
