Phani Kumar is a highly skilled software engineer with over 10 years of experience in designing and building highly available backend systems using a variety of languages such as Java, Ruby, Python, and Scala. Currently, he is working as a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Salesforce, where he is responsible for working on the Database Infrastructure of Salesforce. Prior to joining Salesforce, Phani worked as a Principal Software Engineer at Verizon, where he was part of the platform team in HQ. He was involved in the public cloud migration and laying the groundwork for running the service in multiple regions in an active-active manner. He extended the routing layer to proxy traffic from one region to another region and also fail over one region to another. He also dockerized the entire Bluejeans application stack and migrated backend systems from data center to Kubernetes on public cloud (AWS EKS) without any downtime. Phani was also involved with capacity planning and estimation to handle surges in traffic. Before this, Phani worked as a Principal Software Engineer at Verizon in the Bangalore office. He was one of the early engineers in the back-end engineering team and started off with new feature development in Bluejeans Video Conferencing Service. Later, he moved on to the infrastructure side of the house to work on availability and reducing the time to recover of the service. He added the Call Me feature to the meetings platform and integrated the backend systems and HTTP routing layer with the application partition manager so that they could take a partition offline with the click of a button and route production traffic to another partition. Phani holds an MS degree in Information Technology from JNTU and a bachelor's degree from VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology.
