Philip Moss is a highly skilled Software Engineer II at Appian Corporation, where he specializes in building, deploying, and supporting Appian's end-to-end cloud monitoring platform, Iris. He gained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Duke University, where he was selected as a Robertson Scholar. Philip has over five years of relevant experience in the tech industry, with both domestic and international research experience in STEM fields and social sciences. Philip is an expert in AWS, Kubernetes, SRE, Terraform, Java, Backend, infra, Python, Docker, and Kafka. He has also gained experience in Kubernetes application deployment and development in both kops and AWS EKS Kubernetes clusters, delivering insights on customer site usage and Kubernetes application deployments on Grafana, deploying services in AWS EKS clusters with gitlab pipelines via helm and jinja templating, and supporting Helm deployments of Thanos, Cortex, Loki, Prometheus, Alertmanager, and Grafana. He has also developed custom solutions with Infrastructure as Code through terraform and python scripting. In addition to his work at Appian, Philip has also worked as a Software Engineer and Site Reliability Engineer at the same company, where he built, monitored, and supported highly-available components of Appian's codebase as a Java software engineer. He also revamped monitoring of production Java code through a Prometheus monitoring stack, delivered unique solutions for Apache Kafka and Apache ZooKeeper in Docker containers, and mentored students at UMD Black Engineer Society's 2018 Black Hack event. Philip also has experience as a Migrant Education Summer School STEM Instructor at SBCSC Bilingual Services Department/MRSC-Region I, where he taught and mentored latinx students in the core principles of FIRST Lego League, MINDSTORMS programming, and project research. Outside of work, Philip enjoys learning about various movement and music vocabularies found within the African diaspora.
