Piyush Mittal is an accomplished engineering leader with over 17 years of experience in technology companies in India and Southeast Asia. As the VP of Engineering at Tokopedia, Piyush is responsible for driving technology vision, strategy, and development, and fostering best-in-class practices in building and scaling technology platforms. He has expertise in scaling technology solutions to multi-million customers, building technology teams, and understands distributed product development spread across geographies, setting up processes, and mechanisms. During his tenure at Tokopedia, Piyush has designed and launched several new platforms and services, including a new product launch platform and flash sale platform supporting very high concurrency, an affiliate platform for influencers, a multi-warehouse inventory management platform enabling hyper-local business, and a seller platform, price recommendation, seller analytics, and insights. He has also architected the merchant, affiliate, and product data platforms, and strengthened the continuous deployment pipeline at Tokopedia by introducing canary and beta on-demand capabilities. Piyush is also heading the "IP protection" program at Tokopedia and has published 105+ defensive publications. He is also leading the "Listening Groups" program at Tokopedia for better engagement with sellers, customers, and internal employees. Prior to joining Tokopedia, Piyush served as the Director of the Hotels technology team at MakeMyTrip, where he designed dynamic pricing, hotel ranking, and content platforms. He scaled the hotel's platform to support 2x business while optimizing the infrastructure cost, grew the team with world-class engineers, and introduced the culture of innovation, experimentation, and fast-moving teams. Piyush is also the co-founder and CTO of MyRefers, a professional community where people can unlock the value of their network by referring their connections to jobs and earn rewards and goodwill. Piyush holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Software Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering from National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur.
