Pramod Kompalli is a highly experienced Staff Scientist with over 20 years of experience in the field of Machine Learning, with a particular focus on Computer Vision and Multimedia Understanding problems. He is currently working at Walmart, where he is exploring Deep Learning solution stacks to address previously unsolvable problems in multi-modal data fusion. Prior to joining Walmart, Pramod worked at Amazon as a Research Scientist, where he was involved in building and deploying visual understanding systems at scale. He has also worked at Ola and Flipkart, where he built driver assistance systems for challenging traffic conditions and search and recommendation systems for e-commerce using Deep Learning, respectively. During his PhD, Pramod proposed new approaches to scalable retrieval/recognition and built retrieval systems over movies/TV shows, cricket videos, and large document image databases. He built the biggest retrieval system over non-English document images, whose performance defined the state-of-the-art at the time. His thesis won the Doctoral Dissertation Award by IUPRAI. Pramod is highly regarded in the industry and regularly reviews for several computer vision and document recognition conferences and journals. He has received the outstanding reviewer award three times. He is particularly interested in working on problems of scale and real-world impact and hopes to be involved in building and deploying a billion-scale visual understanding system. Pramod has a strong technical background, with expertise in Research Scientist, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Data Scientist, ML, Recommendation system, and Search. He is passionate about understanding why Deep Learning solutions work and what their limits are. He is also keen to learn how to build products, systems, and have a positive impact on customers.
