Prateek Sharma is a Software Engineer II at Uber with a passion for building complex distributed systems, designing beautiful code, and optimizing features that can handle a large scale of requests and data. He views the world as a set of microservices and enjoys developing interesting solutions to challenging problems. Prateek has a unique background as a musician turned programmer. He spent most of his time in engineering writing music until he became inspired by a microprocessor simulator and decided to pursue a career in coding. He enjoys listening to alternative rock while working on his projects. Currently, Prateek is working on building Uber's next-generation Membership Experience. He has also worked on the next version of Uber for Business Platform and its integration with Uber's Communication Platform. Additionally, he led the delivery of U4B's legacy Python infra deprecation. In his previous role as a Software Engineer I at Uber, Prateek built the Rider Data Platform from scratch, which provided a platform to create and read Rider Data Insights optimally. He also designed and developed a config-driven framework on top of Spark to facilitate the ease of local/staging testing and ease of writing Spark Applications. Furthermore, he designed and developed a plug-and-play system to attach/detach the application components to provide flexibility in the development and debugging of Spark Applications. Lastly, he designed and developed a system on top of Airport Trips to clean out the data issues with airport trips. Prateek holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Hamirpur. He has 7.79 years of relevant experience and is skilled in Software Engineering, Microservices, Spark, Python, Integration, Infra, and Test.
