Pratik Jayarao is an Applied Scientist at Amazon with a strong background in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science, where he earned a Master's in Computational Data Science. At Amazon, Pratik works as a Machine Learning Scientist in the TEN MT team, which is dedicated to improving the search experience for Amazon's retail search worldwide in both primary and secondary languages. He is responsible for working on Machine Translation science and engineering to expand and improve the languages that Amazon supports globally. Before joining Amazon, Pratik worked as a Data Science Intern in Walmart, where he pre-trained a BERT model on Retail corpus to obtain retail-specific contextual embeddings and surpassed the performance of previously existing downstream models such as Contextual Intent Detection, NER, Title Compression, and Sentiment Analysis model. He also prototyped a novel architecture to inject dependency embeddings into the pre-training pipeline of Tiny BERT. Pratik has also worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Haptik, where he developed and deployed various NLP models for conversational AI applications. Pratik's education includes a Master's degree in Computational Data Science from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Dwarkadas J.
