Qi Zhou is a Senior Software Engineer with 8.78 years of experience in the field of software engineering. Currently, he is working as a Staff Software Engineer at Niantic, Inc. where he is leading the tech team for Niantic Visual Positioning Service (VPS). He is responsible for building 3D mapping and localization technology that enables new experiences and encourages people to explore the world. He is a research scientist and develops advanced computer vision algorithms, large-scale machine learning, mapping, and localization infrastructures. He is shaping the future of AR and is interested in connecting with people who share his vision. Before joining Niantic, Qi Zhou worked at Facebook where he held the position of Staff Software Engineer at Facebook AI and Senior Software Engineer at Instagram Infra. At Facebook AI, he led the productionization of PyTorch at Facebook scale and built the next-generation large-scale machine learning infrastructure. He worked on inference accelerator, machine learning compiler, model quantization and pruning, large-scale ML model serving, and model serving optimizations. At Instagram Infra, he worked on web server process and memory management, concurrent server with Python asyncio, CPython runtime optimizations, cache optimizations, CPython profilers, performance regression detection system, and traffic replay. He was also the recipient of Instagram Axe (top performer award). Qi Zhou completed his Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2014. He also completed an Exchange Program in Overall Top Student from the University of Cambridge in 2011 and his Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Tianjin University in 2012.
