Rahul 'Asti' R is an experienced engineer with over 13 years of experience working on convergent and geographically distributed systems. He is currently a Staff Engineer at Walmart, where he is the Tech Lead for Thor Outbound. Rahul is primarily focused on improving the DX for engineers and product and improving collaboration among teams. Rahul is skilled in functional programming, EDA, HMI, and Edge Computing, with an eye for UX. He is interested in automation, creating dev tools, and better UX for developers. Rahul has a history of working on a wide range of end-to-end hardware, ranging from isolated measurement, data acquisition, analog sensors wired/wireless transmission to power supplies, solar chargers, and battery backup. Prior to his current role at Walmart, Rahul was the Head of Development at Webyfy Labs, where he was responsible for several hardware/software products. Rahul architected and built a highly portable message-routing system for wired/wireless IoT sensor networks, implemented strongly-typed RPC using Protocol Buffers, and designed a wide range of end-to-end hardware. Rahul also implemented an org-wide Kanban system and knowledge base for tracking board life-cycle, issues, errata, and supply-chain dependencies. Before joining Webyfy Labs, Rahul was the Product Owner of IRMAGS at Webyfy Infotech P Ltd. He was tasked with building an edge-computing IoT system with custom hardware and sensors, delivering sensor inferences as well as surveillance. Rahul built an application gateway interface for running various isolated modules using MAF, resulting in a high-reliability, fault-tolerant architecture. He also implemented a module update deployment system using Nuget with dependency tracking, for pushing continual improvements to the edge without service disruption. Rahul holds a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Government Engineering College and an ISC from Loyola School.
