Rahul Amaram is an accomplished software engineer with over 17 years of experience in designing and developing scalable, low latency applications. He graduated from IIIT Hyderabad and started his career with Infosys, before co-founding a technology startup, Spinaxys Solutions. He then moved on to Synovel, where he designed and led the development of the open-source Collabsuite server, and later joined Vizury, a startup in the advertising domain, where he led the RTB platform pipeline and helped build scalable systems using cloud computing. Currently, Rahul is a Principal Software Engineer at Khoros (formerly Lithium), where he has been instrumental in building teams, setting up processes and culture, and developing products over the course of 4.5 years. His areas of expertise include Elasticsearch, designing horizontally scalable systems, building extremely low latency applications, multi-layered distributed caching systems, cloud computing, SOA and Restful APIs, AWS security, continuous integration systems, packaging and release management, setting up dev, test and production environments, and monitoring and alerting. At Khoros, Rahul has evaluated different approaches for pulling search out as a micro-service, helped optimize Elasticsearch clusters, and implemented automated code quality checks to be run only for newer changes. He has also handled customer critical bugs and reduced cluster costs by 50%. In addition, he has performed code reviews for multiple projects and prepared a detailed on-call training plan and onboarded multiple on-call engineers. Prior to Khoros, Rahul worked at Lithium Technologies as a Principal Software Engineer and Lead Software Engineer. He helped recruit a lot of the initial talent, set up processes for Agile software development and on-call, and prototyped a performance testing framework that was built using micro-services based architecture. He also led the accessibility team for achieving better WCAG 2.0 AA compliance and initiated lunch-n-learn sessions in the Blr office. Rahul holds a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from IIIT Hyderabad.
