Rajan Kapur is a Senior Vice President at IEEE Smart Village, a volunteer-run social seed fund and nursery that works with local entrepreneurs in under-served rural communities in four continents. With over 41 years of relevant experience, Rajan has been working with small teams on early stage sustainability projects, including developing subsidy-free approaches to electric transportation in hill states in India and developing low-cost cooling with a team in Chennai. Currently, Rajan is working with IEEE Smart Village entrepreneurs in Africa, Latin America, India, and Vietnam. He leverages renewable energy, education, and entrepreneurship to improve lives, with support from IEEE Societies and IEEE Foundation. Prior to his current role, Rajan served as an Adjunct Professor at IIT/Mandi School of Computer and Electrical Engineering, where he led the E-mobility initiative for hill states and capacity building for IIT-regional-polytechnics-industry. Rajan holds a PhD from the University of Texas and an MEE from Rice University, Houston. He also has a B.Tech from IIT, a Pre-Degree from Deccan Education Society's Fergusson College, and an SSC from Loyola High School, Pune. Additionally, he attended pre-school at Ghanta Ghar, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Overall, Rajan is a seasoned sustainability expert who is passionate about using his skills and experience to make a positive impact on under-served communities around the world.
