Ramu Panayappan is an experienced engineering executive with over 19 years of relevant experience. He is currently the Head of Engineering for AWS EC2 Enterprise at Amazon, where he leads a large portfolio of web services to accelerate AWS EC2 in the Enterprise community. His portfolio includes Migration Services, Application Modernization, Manageability Services, and Hybrid Cloud services. Prior to joining Amazon, Ramu worked at VMware as a (Sr.) Director R&D Engineering, leading a cross-geographical team of 150+ engineers in Palo Alto, Beijing, and Bangalore. He delivered a better-than-local remote experience for Horizon 7, Horizon Cloud (Azure/AWS/IBM SoftLayer), and Personal Desktop Products (VMWare WorkStation/Fusion). Ramu conceptualized and delivered BEAT, a new network stack for VMware Horizon 7 and Horizon DaaS. He also architected and led a large cross-functional group to build an intelligent Transport Stack (BENIT) to remote desktops and applications. Ramu has also worked at Riverbed Technology as a (Tech) Director of Engineering, where he enabled Riverbed’s vision of becoming an SD-WAN leader by providing infrastructure for Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and SD-WAN controller to chain varied network services. He was also the Senior Engineering Manager/Product Architect, where he managed the entire Riverbed`s SteelHead Interceptor product and architected industry’s first-ever zero-config network service to dynamically learn/reflect routes and secure links between sites using overlay networks by building the SD-WAN controller. Ramu is an expert in AWS, Senior Software Engineering, Web, Android, Research Science, iOS, Search, Azure, Infra, and Software Engineering. He graduated from Stanes Higher Secondary School. Throughout his career, Ramu has built, mentored, coached, and managed multiple teams including technical leaders across different geographies. He closely works with Product, Sales, Release & Support to build multi-year roadmaps & to enable customer success.
