Richie Vos is a seasoned Software Engineer with over 20 years of relevant experience in the field. He is currently employed at Facebook as a Software Engineer, where he is responsible for developing and maintaining software applications. Prior to Facebook, Richie worked at Groupon in various roles, including Lead Architect, Infrastructure Platform, Senior Staff Engineer/Principal Engineer, and Software Engineer. At Groupon, Richie worked on a variety of projects, including migrating on-premise web services to the cloud, primarily using Kubernetes on AWS. His area of oversight includes web service processes, logging/monitoring pipelines, streaming data pipelines, load balancing, VPC/networking, AWS account design, and the tooling on top of the system (e.g. performance testing systems). Richie's day-to-day work spans high-level architectural/planning tasks and continued hands-on development. He has also led the technical analysis for "which cloud provider" to use for the entire Groupon system, coordinated account, VPC, and IAM architecture, designed the service migration strategy for hundreds of web services running Groupon, and performed the actual migration of numerous services. Richie's hands-on work includes Kubernetes'ifying web services, building out VPCs/accounts through Terraform, and building performance testing platforms. He has also worked on multi data center Geo Redundancy Architecture, SOA design and execution, a/b testing infrastructure, scalability and performance, continuous integration infrastructure, geospatial analysis services using Postgres/PostGIS, built near-realtime credit card collection systems, deployment automation and tooling, and customer support tooling. Richie has a BS in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
