Rijula Kar is an accomplished Applied Scientist with over 5 years of experience in developing NLP models for Information Extraction from unstructured or semi-structured data using deep learning and machine learning state of the art techniques. She holds a Master's degree in Information Extraction (NLP) from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where her MS thesis was published in a top-tier Machine Learning conference (AAAI'18). Currently, Rijula is working as an Applied Scientist at Flipkart, where she is responsible for developing transformer-based machine learning models to generate product embeddings to finally return similar fashion products in Flipkart present in competitors' platforms. Her work in similar product matching will help in competitive pricing strategy, reducing selection gap as well as product de-duplication. Prior to her current role, Rijula worked as a Senior Data Scientist at Infoedge, where she improved the Work Experience Extraction Module of CV Parser by building a CNN-based temporal information extraction module to arrange companies and designations in experience timeline. She also developed deep learning-based supervised NER modules to automatically extract structured information such as work experience, skills, education, etc. from CV using LSTM, CNN, which was able to achieve a 20% improvement in F1 score. Rijula has a strong educational background, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIEST, Shibpur, and a Master's degree in Information Extraction (NLP) from IIT Kharagpur.
