Rob Gao is a software engineer at Google with a background in scientific research. He is a full-stack developer with experience in both backend and frontend engineering. Rob is passionate about combining scientific principles with innovative thinking to solve real-world problems. Rob has experience creating RESTful API backends using Node.js/Express, MongoDB, Postgres, MySQL, Redis, and AWS for service-oriented architecture (SOA) projects. He also has experience creating frontend experiences focused on the user through React/Redux, Angular, and ES6 Javascript. Prior to joining Google, Rob worked as a Software Engineering Fellow (Lead) at Hack Reactor, where he lectured and mentored students on algorithms, data structures, and programming/engineering mental models. He also worked as a Backend Software Engineer at Databass, where he improved the backend scalability of legacy code and increased server responses-per-second (RPS) using AWS micro-instances. Rob holds a PhD in Cancer Genomics from the University of Southern California. His technical skills include software engineering, AWS, frontend and backend development, Redis, MySQL, MongoDB, Postgres, NodeJS, AngularJS, and Redux.
