Rob Gilliam is an experienced software engineering professional with over 30 years of experience in developing and delivering high-quality software for a wide range of application domains and platforms using various programming languages. He is currently working as a Software Engineer at bjss. Rob is a Certified Scrum Master since 2014 and is interested in improving the software development process to deliver higher quality software quickly. He has worked on various stages of the software development life-cycle, from design to implementation and testing. In his previous roles, Rob worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Configit, where he adapted the Configuration Lifecycle Management (CLM) software suite to meet customers' needs, mainly in the automotive industries. He also worked as an Agile Team Lead, responsible for the day-to-day operation of Scrum and Kanban-based projects, leading regular retrospective sessions in-person and online using Retrium.com. Rob also served as the Acting UK Support Lead at Configit, where he took on the responsibility of frontline support for one of the company's customers. He introduced a prioritization system based on Kanban principles to address over 400 open issues and incidents, some of which were over 3 years old, and bring them under control. He eventually handed over to a permanent replacement with the backlog reduced to just 20-30 issues, almost all of which were "in hand" with fixes scheduled. Rob holds a BSc (hons) in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham and a Diploma in Economics, a Postgraduate Diploma in Computing for Commerce & Industry (CCI), and a BA (hons) in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) from The Open University.
